Mohamed Salah exit update shared as Saudi clubs remain interested in Liverpool gem

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah.

Writing on his Daily Briefing (5 July), the Italian journalist revealed that there is no confirmation on Salah’s future one way or another.

Salah was strongly linked with Saudi Arabian clubs in the past, and Romano confirmed that interest still remains, albeit without anything concrete so far this summer.

He said: “Despite the rumours, I’ve still zero updates on Mo Salah’s situation so far.

“It’s quiet, there are no changes with Saudi clubs, and though the interest is there since last summer, Liverpool have not received any proposals or approaches at the moment.

“I don’t have any confirmation or guarantee either about Salah leaving and joining Saudi this summer.”

Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad saw a £150million bid rejected for Salah last summer (BBC Sport, 1 September 2023).

Liverpool need to make Mohamed Salah transfer decision

The harsh reality is that Liverpool will need to make a decision on Salah’s future at Anfield this summer.

He has entered the final 12 months of his contract and will be 33-years-old by the end of the 2024/25 season.

Salah proved in the first half of last season that he is still capable of performing to an elite level in the Premier League.

However, he is currently the club’s highest earner at £350,000 per week and has entered the twilight years of his career.

The Reds can’t afford to lose Salah for nothing at the end of the season and will need to make a decision on the best plan moving forward.

Replacing him will be a daunting task for Liverpool but one they seem to already be in the process of conducting.

Arne Slot has reportedly held personal talks with Leeds United winger Crysencio Summerville, according to Wiebe de Vries (4 July).

The Reds spoke to Newcastle regarding Anthony Gordon last weekend (Daily Mail, 29 June), but the deal broke down after they asked for Jarell Quansah.

Liverpool fans need to accept that no player in world football will be able to immediately replace the club’s third-highest goalscorer of all-time.

The task facing Slot and co is deciding on whether to offer the 32-year-old a new deal on reduced terms, let him walk at the end of the season or tempt Saudi Arabia in returning with a big money move.

Any decision will bring scrutiny from one corner of the fanbase but trust has to be placed with the club to make the right choice for Liverpool.

In other Liverpool news, the club have been told to make a transfer decision on a Euro 2024 star.
