Liverpool to table player-plus-cash offer for Newcastle United ace Anthony Gordon

Liverpool are preparing a fresh offer for Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon, according to TeamTALK.

Writing on their website [29 June], the Reds are going to a table a player-plus-cash offer of £50 million and Caoimhin Kelleher.

The clubs failed to agree terms on a deal after Newcastle approached Liverpool with an offer involving Jarell Quansah moving to St. James Park [Daily Mail, 29 June].

Newcastle needed to raise funds before 1 July to comply with Profit and Sustainability regulations.

The Magpies have since sold Yankuba Minteh to Brighton and Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest.

Both deals raised a combined £68 million [The Northern Echo, 30 June].

Anthony Gordon wants dream Liverpool move

Gordon had his heart set on a move to boyhood club Liverpool.

The 23-year-old has had his head turned by the negotiations [The Telegraph, 1 July].

It is important to note that Liverpool rejected Newcastle’s proposal, not the player.

The Reds have a long standing interest in Gordon but were unwilling to part ways with Quansah for the deal.

There is also the quality of depth currently at the club in the forward positions.

Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz can all play in Gordon’s preferred position.

Any deal for Gordon would only be pursued if one was to leave amid speculation over Diaz’s future [Metro, 27 June].

A move including Kelleher would make sense for both parties.

Liverpool value the 25-year-old at £25 million and are yet to find a club willing to meet their asking price.

Despite the signing of Odysseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest, there are still question marks over Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka.

Kelleher has proven his quality to a potential first-team goalkeeper in the Premier League.

He made 10 appearances in the league last season and started the Carabao cup final in February.

With no chance of displacing Alisson as the number one at Anfield it is time for Kelleher to become an established Premier League goalkeeper.

Newcastle are under no pressure to sell having raised funds before the PSR deadline.

But after denying Gordon his dream move to Liverpool, the saga could rumble on through the summer.

In other Liverpool news, Anthony Gordon thought he had sealed Liverpool transfer before new development.
