Luis Diaz could get the better of Alisson as Liverpool duo clash

Diaz put on a fantastic performance for Colombia in their 3-0 win over Costa Rica last time out [28 June].

The 27-year-old played like a man possessed scoring the opening goal via the penalty spot.

He completed 100 percent of his dribbles and created four key passes resulting in one big chance.

His goal was one in two group stage games and he will be trying to add to that tally against Alisson.

Liverpool Anfield

Diaz has been a constant threat throughout the tournament.

With 2.5 shots per game and 4.5 ball recoveries per 90 he is establishing his presence for Colombia.

Liverpool fans know how much of a joy to watch Diaz can be and his overall play has never been at doubt during his Anfield tenure.

But he was heavily criticised last season for his lack of goal output.

Diaz missed 13 big chances in the Premier League last season. Conversely He is yet to miss one at Copa America so far.

The winger is showing signs of returning to the form he showed prior to the knee injury suffered against Manchester City in 2022.

His position at the club, however, is under threat.

Cody Gakpo has been performing at a high level in the same position for the Netherlands at Euro 2024.

To secure his Anfield future he will have to continue to perform for Colombia.

That starts with beating his Reds teammate Alisson in Santa Clara, California tonight.

The nation that finishes runners-up will face Darwin Nunez and Uruguay in the quarter final.
