Anthony Gordon thought he had sealed Liverpool transfer before new development
Anthony Gordon was denied a move to Liverpool after the Reds failed to make a strong enough bid, according to the Telegraph.
The newspaper reported on its website that the Newcastle attacker was “very keen” on the move and now has had his head turned by his dream switch.
At one stage, Gordon even thought that he’d be arriving at Liverpool as a new transfer, however, this evidently didn’t materialise.
What does this mean for the future of Liverpool and Anthony Gordon?
Since Arne Slot officially took over as Head Coach of the Reds on 1 June, Liverpool have been linked with a plethora of players.
Players such as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia [the Sunday Mirror, 30 June, page 72] and Leny Yoro are just two of the transfer targets that Slot’s men have been linked with thus far.
On paper, the Reds’ attack is one of, if not the strongest area of Liverpool’s team.
But, towards the end of last season, the form of both Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah dropped off somewhat and Jurgen Klopp was punished for it.

Hence why attacking reinforcements could find themselves high on Slot’s priority list over the summer, especially due to the inconsistency of Nunez.
Although a move isn’t completely off the cards yet for the Red half of Merseyside and Gordon, should someone such as Ademola Lookman re-enter the frame [Calcio Mercato, 25 June], there wouldn’t be room in the squad for the former Everton man.
