Liverpool could turn Anthony Gordon into a star

Gordon is highly rated by the club’s scouting and analytical departments and they have now seemingly decided to make their move.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a stellar first full campaign at Newcastle following his move from Everton in January 2023.

It is around this time last year that the Reds’ interest in Dominik Szoboszlai emerged out of nowhere. Three days later, a deal was struck with RB Leipzig.

A similar situation could emerge with Gordon but a potential deal could prove difficult.

He joined the Magpies for £45million and a deal could cost around the £60-80m mark.

Liverpool are unlikely to sanction a move of that price unless there is a significant departure, with Luis Diaz’s future [Metro, 27 March] up in the air.

But a move for self-proclaimed Steven Gerrard fan Gordon makes sense despite his Everton past.

The Reds are targeting homegrown talent this summer with only four non-homegrown spots available following the impending departure of Adrian [ABC, 23 June].

Liverpool need a consistent goal threat and Gordon fits the bill perfectly.

It is not only a move that makes sense but if confirmed, one that would cause a stir on Merseyside.
