Liverpool forward Diogo Jota struggles as Portugal suffer shock Euro 2024 loss to Georgia
Liverpool striker Diogo Jota struggled to make an impact when subbed on for Portugal’s 2-0 loss to Georgia at Euro 2024 on Wednesday (26 June).
He struggled to make an impact against a well-organised Georgia team that shocked a rotated Portugal side in Gelsenkirchen.
The 27-year-old was introduced in the 75th minute for Wolves winger Pedro Neto but his 15-minute cameo left a lot to be desired.
Jota struggles not a worry for Liverpool fans
Liverpool fans know all too well the quality of Diogo Jota.
You’d do well to find a match that Jota has played that didn’t come with a rendition of “His name is Diogo”.
But the same can’t be said with his performances for the national team.
Jota has only featured twice off the bench so far at Euro 2024 with minimal impact.

His one big chance missed thus far in the tournament came in their defeat to Georgia.
He saw his flicked effort go wide after he was found on the edge of the six yard box by Francisco Conceicao.
As per Sofascore, the chance amounted to 0.59 xG and was Jota’s sole shot of the game.
Jota rarely saw the ball as Portugal pushed to get back into the match.
He got on the ball 11 times and used it to create one key pass and record 100 percent pass accuracy.
But there’s no need for Liverpool fans to raise the alarm on Jota.
The Reds forward hasn’t featured much in the tournament and so far his country hasn’t needed him.
Given his injury record in recent seasons there will be many Liverpool fans that only want Jota to return to fit for the new season.
The stats don’t make for great reading but fail to paint the full picture of his cameo.
Meaning shouldn’t be read in a match where Portugal had nothing to lose and Georgia everything to play for.
