RB Leipzig eye Liverpool gem Tyler Morton as £20m update emerges
RB Leipzig are reportedly leading the race for Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper reported in its print edition (24 June, page 64) that the 21-year-old’s impressive spell at Championship club Hull City last season has sparked interest from the Bundesliga side.
Premier League clubs are also reportedly monitoring the situation with Southampton, Bournemouth and Ipswich Town linked with a move for the midfielder.
Liverpool reportedly have set a £20million price tag on their academy product.
Should Liverpool sell Tyler Morton this summer?
Morton was an integral part of the Hull side that missed out on the playoff spots by three points last season.
He made 39 appearances in the Championship registering three goals and five assists across the campaign [Transfermarkt].
According to the Mail report, Morton wants to continue his development at Anfield next season and make the step up to the top flight following two loan spells in the Championship with Blackburn and Hull.
Selling Morton could be a smart move for Liverpool, with any sale representing pure profit for a club that prefers to operate with a positive net spend.
However, should the Reds hold on to Morton, there is promise that the midfielder’s Anfield career could replicate the path of fellow England Under-21 international Harvey Elliott.
Elliott was handed his chance in the first team by former manager Jurgen Klopp in 2021 following an impressive loan spell with Blackburn Rovers the season prior.
The 21-year-old has developed into a regular first-team starter for the Reds and was perhaps one of the only solid performers last season as Liverpool’s season faltered towards the end of the campaign.
Injuries to Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Stefan Bajcetic and Thiago left Liverpool short in midfield for large periods of last season.

New Liverpool manager Arne Slot will surely be eager not to leave the club in a similar situation during his first season at Anfield and having a capable performer like Morton at his disposal may be worth more than the reported £20 million the club value him at.
With reports that Liverpool are not prioritising a new number six this summer, it makes sense to hold onto Morton and give him an opportunity that could save the club millions if he lives up to promise.
