Liverpool ace Andy Robertson slammed for ‘disappointing’ Scotland v Hungary showing

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson has been slammed for his performance in Scotland’s 1-0 defeat to Hungary [23 June].

The Daily Record [24 June, Pg.43] gave the Scottish captain 6/10 for “one of his quieter games” as Scotland were knocked out of Euro 2024, and labelled it a “disappointing” night for the defender.

Kevin Csoboth scored a 100th-minute winner as Scotland finished bottom of Group A, failing to win any of their three group-stage games.

Robertson failed to replicate the same form that he has shown for Liverpool as he captained his country to a group-stage exit.

Scotland were denied a penalty in the 78th minute with the game goalless. which could have seen Scotland finish third with hope of qualifying for the knockouts.

Robertson can prepare for important Liverpool season

Despite Scotland’s disappointing showing at Euro 2024, Robertson can still leave the tournament with his head held high.

The 30-year-old has captained Scotland to consecutive European Championships having not qualified for the competition prior since 1996.

Robertson may have not been able to replicate his Liverpool form for the national team but that’s more down to manager Steve Clarke than Robertson’s ability.

His £8 million move from Hull City in 2019 is one of the staples of Michael Edwards tenure as sporting director.

As per [Transfermarkt], Robertson has made 297 appearances for the Reds with 11 goals and 65 assists during his Anfield tenure.

The 2024/25 season will be one of Robertson’s most important seasons in a Liverpool shirt.

With reports that Liverpool have enquired about Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori, Robertson will need to replicate past form to cement his place in the side.

Joe Gomez showed last season that playing left-back may be his best position and slotted in well in the Scotsman’s absence.

Scotland’s Euro 2024 exit may be a blessing in disguise for Robertson as he will return to Anfield for a full pre-season under new manager Arne Slot.

Liverpool fans will be hoping Robertson’s Scotland performances don’t follow him to club level.
