Liverpool transfer news as Real Madrid Leny Yoro update emerges

Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Leny Yoro as Real Madrid already have an “agreement in place” to sign the Lille teenager, according to the Mirror [20 June].

The report goes on to say that a move in the summer is dependant on whether or not veteran centre-back Nacho Fernandez extends his stay with Los Blancos.

If a move to the Saudi Pro League fails to progress for Nacho, Yoro’s transfer could be delayed by 12 months upon the expiry of the 18-year-old’s contract.

Why Liverpool should set their sights away from Leny Yoro this summer

It’s evident that despite Liverpool having a bid in the region of £42million rejected for the defender [Mundo Deportivo] on 18 June, that Yoro has his heart set on a move to Spain.

Although the 18-year-old would likely slot straight into the Reds’ first-team fold and be mentored by one of the world’s best centre-backs in Virgil van Dijk, he would evidently rather ply his trade for the La Liga giants.

A deal night not be in the works for the Lille teenage gem but it is evident that the Reds still have a void to fill in defence this summer.

Of the players that have been linked with a move to Merseyside, the vast majority have been defenders.

Wit both Marc Guehi [Daily Mail, 18 June] and Jeremie Frimpong [SportBild, 13 June] being among those rumoured, it’s evident that defence is a key area for Arne Slot and Richard Hughes’ recruitment model this summer.

In other Liverpool news, the Reds have entered the race for Crystal Palace star Michael Olise.
