Liverpool set for £250m Mohamed Salah decision at Anfield already
Liverpool will have a £250million decision to make should Saudi Arabia come calling for Mohamed Salah this summer, according to Dan Plumley.
The Reds legend is entering the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield and is said to be a target for clubs in the Middle East as they look to strengthen the profile of their league with big-money signings once again.
Liverpool expect the Egyptian to stay for the 2024/25 season [The Athletic], with Saudi clubs eyeing a potential move in 2025 as a free transfer [Telegraph], but reports a new “monster” offer could come this summer have emerged and football finance expert Plumley believes it will leave Arne Slot and the board with a big decision to make.
“It’s really interesting isn’t it, it depends on how you view it,” he exclusively told Liverpool News.
“If you look at the prize money from the very top of the Premier League, where Liverpool tend to finish there or thereabouts, you’re probably looking at about £150m in TV money as an example. If you have a good run into the latter stages of the Champions League that’s going to be worth £80-100m for a Premier League club. So you’re into the region of £250m of your revenue through prize money from the Premier League and Champions League.
“Then you’ve got the question of what’s the transfer fee potentially for Salah to go? How good is that offer in the context of what he can bring to Liverpool? How good is it in the context of how long his contract is and how long he’s got left on the contract?
“What’s the bigger picture for the club? New manager, transition, there’s loads of questions within that and it does become that question of do you keep him or cash in.
“It will be a really interesting one but there’s no doubt that a fully fit Mo Salah still has a lot to offer Liverpool and that can go some way to generating significant return on and off the pitch in prize money for the club.”
Will Liverpool sell Mohamed Salah to Saudi this summer?
It’s hard to believe after the last few years that there is a world where Liverpool could look to sell Salah, but this summer it really could be the case.
Salah is 32 years old and into the final year of his deal at Anfield, meaning there will literally never be a better time to sell him for maximum value.
His output isn’t diminishing and he remains incredibly vital to the side, but Arne Slot is replacing Jurgen Klopp and may have different plans for the team too, so there is a decision to be made if an offer comes in.

With that said, the cash that Liverpool earns through prize money is crucial to the way the club operates and Salah is a huge part of that success on the pitch which generates that cash.
Selling him may bring in a fee, but if they don’t replace him adequately and then miss out on the on-pitch success, it wouldn’t be worth it. With that said, FSG have a big decision to make if Saudi clubs make their move.
In other Liverpool news, the club have been given hope in their pursuit of French starlet Leny Yoro.
