Liverpool have £40m+ bid rejected by Lille for star man Leny Yoro

Liverpool have had a £42m bid rejected by Lille for their their star defender Leny Yoro, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish outlet claims that alongside the Reds, both PSG and Manchester United are vying for the transfer of the 18-year-old.

However, each are fighting against Real Madrid, and Yoro himself as the French centre-back has “chosen his destiny”.

Despite this, the French club are reportedly holding out for a fee in the region of £50.6m, which Florentino Perez doesn’t want to pay.

What Leny Yoro would bring to Liverpool

It comes as no surprise that Liverpool need to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer.

Not only have the club lost Joel Matip upon the expiry of his contract but, the club only have three natural centre-backs within their ranks.

Talks have also started to surface around Arne Slot delving into his Feyenoord squad and bringing Lutsharel Geertruida with him to Anfield this summer.

The three comprise of Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Jarell Quansah. Van Dijk is still one of the best defenders in world football but the remaining two aren’t all that reliable.

Konate is often injured and spends large chunks of the season sidelined whereas, although Quansah is a solid option, he is still too young to consistently play week in and week out.

Jarell Quansah Liverpool

There have been times where the youngster had made small mistakes but for the age of 21, he’s a solid option.

Granted, Yoro is just 18 years old but he has been amongst the first team at Lille since he was 16 and this season alone, he managed to play a total of 44 games across all competitions and score three goals.

At his current age, he would be an ideal candidate for Van Dijk to mentor and take him under his wing to mould him into the best player he can be.

However, £50.6m for an 18-year-old seems like a fairly hefty price and could be a step too far for Liverpool to splash out.
