National media reacts to Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold showing in England v Serbia, ‘livewire’

Liverpool first-team regular Trent Alexander-Arnold had yet another solid showing and was key after he helped England to their 1-0 v Serbia (16 June) in their Euro 2024 opener.

The Reds star is coming off yet another strong season for the Anfield club and has adapted to his new ‘inverted full-back’ role perfectly.

Although he wasn’t involved in the Three Lions’ only goal, he was fairly solid on the pitch and helped advance the ball forward.

His range of passing and ability to pick out a pass are second to none and it seems fairly evident what he can bring to England in Euro 2024, with the national media in England reacting to his performance.

Sky Sports (16 June) awarded Alexander-Arnold an 8/10 and stated that he was a “livewire” and that he “plenty of shots from midfield and took up good areas.”

Whilst The Evening Standard (16 June) ranked him at a 6/10 but stated that his “range of passing caught the eye.”

Could Trent Alexander-Arnold play in midfield for Liverpool?

Throughout the 2023/24 season, Alexander-Arnold was among Jurgen Klopp’s best players (when fit.) His ability to pick out a pass others can’t see and his attacking impact on the game are second to none.

However, in recent weeks, the Reds have been linked with a move for Jeremie Frimpong [SportBild, 11 June.] with the idea of moving the Liverpool right-back further up the field.

Liverpool Anfield

And, depending on how well the Anfield academy graduate does in Euro 2024, could play a strong part in Arne Slot’s transfer decisions this summer.

Although Joe Gomez didn’t appear in England’s opener, he has still been at the centre of attention as he has recently been linked with a move to Bayern Munich [Daily Mirror, 12 June.]

Time will only tell if Slot will choose to deploy Alexander-Arnold in midfield next season, if he does, he will no doubt improve on his 12-goal contributions this term.

It would also help the Reds in the midfield department, as alongside a centre-back, a defensive-midfielder is one of the main areas Liverpool should be improving.
