Hull City want to sign James McConnell in Liverpool transfer update from Anfield

Hull City are reportedly vying for the transfer of Liverpool gem James McConnell this summer, according to the Liverpool ECHO.

The Reds sent both Tyler Morton and Fabio Carvalho to the Championship outfit on loan last season and it looks as though the clubs could be looking to do more business.

McConnell, 19, made his senior debut for the Reds this season and a decision may be taken to get him more regular senior minutes in the coming campaign.

Liverpool have James McConnell decision to make

The successful loan spells of both Morton and Carvalho the Yorkshire-based club last term, the Tigers are once again vying for the transfer of a Liverpool youngster.

Despite being just 19, the defensive midfielder played a total of 12 games across all competitions for the Reds’ senior squad.

Three of those came in the Premier League, with another three another three coming in the Reds’ Europa League campaign.

The midfielder has even managed to chip in with an assist in the FA Cup despite only playing 141 minutes.

While McConnell is getting some valuable game time at Liverpool, he would benefit much more if he could play consistent first-team football week in and week out.

This was made evident by Morton last season as the youngster has come on leaps and bounds since the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

Both he and Stefan Bajcetic will no doubt be battling it out to become Wataru Endo’s deputy for the upcoming campaign.

That is, unless the Reds make a move for Lutsharel Geertruida this summer which might see Trent Alexander-Arnold move into Endo’s role, then they’d be fighting to be third-choice.

As McConnell isn’t yet up to the same ability as the aforementioned two, it seems logical for the youngster to move away from the club for a season and develop his game further.
