Liverpool want Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh after £40m transfer update

Liverpool are interested in Yankuba Minteh, who Newcastle United will “reluctantly consider” selling for around £40million, according to The Telegraph.

The report on 7 June also states that clubs in Italy and Germany are also keen on the winger.

Minteh enjoyed a successful loan spell at Feyenoord last season under new Liverpool boss Arne Slot.

Would Yankuba Minteh be a good signing for Liverpool?

Minteh enjoyed a sparkling loan spell at Feyenoord last season, racking up 10 goals and five assists in 27 Eredivisie appearances – 17 of which were starts – totalling 1,462 minutes.

That is especially impressive when considering he is still just 19 years old, and his underlying numbers were superb.

In the Eredivisie last season, Minteh’s scoring rate averaged out at 0.62 goals per 90 from an xG of 0.65 – suggesting his streak is sustainable – while his xGOT (expected goals on target) per 90 of 0.75 suggests he deserved to score even more [FotMob].

The right winger’s 11.39 touches in the opposition box per 90 is further evidence of his ability to provide a consistent goal threat – paired with his average of 3.63 successful dribbles per game, a picture is painted of a dynamic, direct goal threat from out wide.

His relative inexperience means he is unlikely to nail down a Liverpool starting spot if he joins the Reds – but his talent makes him an exciting future prospect indeed.
