Liverpool in hunt to sign Lutsharel Geertruida, Feyenoord could be forced into sale
Liverpool are among a number of clubs in the hunt to sign Feyenoord defender Lutsharel Geertruida, according to Algameen Dagblad.
The Dutch newspaper reported on Wednesday (5 June) that Tottenham, Newcastle, West Ham and clubs in Germany and France are also interested in the 23-year-old right-back.
It is understood that the Netherlands international is in the final year of his contract at Feyenoord so the Rotterdam club will have to sell him this summer if they want to get any kind of fee.
AD added that Geertruida almost joined RB Leipzig for £27.6million last year before a deal collapsed. Any transfer this summer will reportedly cost less.
Arne Slot to tap into Dutch transfer market for Liverpool deals?
Geertruida has been a stellar player for Arne Slot throughout the 2023/24 season.
The right-back has appeared a total of 44 times and has managed to contribute to a total of 11 goals.
Although, when compared to Trent Alexander-Arnold, these numbers aren’t all that mesmerising, Geertruida’s addition would allow the Liverpool-born defender to move into a more advanced position.

Playing Alexander-Arnold in a more advanced area of the pitch would undoubtedly help Liverpool’s attack and create more opportunities for players such as Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez.
Hence why the addition of a right-back such as the Feyenoord ace could be an ideal first acquisition for Slot this summer.
Indeed, Liverpool do have the likes of Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez in their ranks, however, the duo can’t be solely relied upon throughout the season.
Although Gomez has often been deployed in full-back throughout this term, his skillset is now much more suited as a centre-back.
And, although Bradley’s talent is unquestionable, the youngster missed a total of 31 games in the 2023/24 campaign which further enhances the Reds’ need for another right back.
In other Liverpool news, the Reds have offered a new contract to this Spanish player.
