Liverpool set Sepp van den Berg price tag as Anfield transfer news emerges
Liverpool have valued Sepp van den Berg at £20million, with a host of clubs interested in his signature, according to The Athletic.
The report on 28 May shares that loan club Mainz are “desperate” to make his transfer permanent, while Wolfsburg are among those who would be keen to keep him in the Bundesliga.
There is Premier League interest, too, in the form of Brentford and newly promoted Southampton, while Ajax are hopeful of luring him back to the Netherlands.
However, no decision is likely to be made on the 22-year-old’s future until new Reds boss Arne Slot has assessed him in pre-season.
Should Liverpool sell Sepp van den Berg?
Van den Berg’s impressive performances in the Bundesliga for Mainz may give incoming head coach Slot pause for thought before sanctioning the sale of his young compatriot.
The 22-year-old excelled in Germany in 2023/24, making 176 recoveries, winning 173 aerial duels and even chipping in with three goals [FotMob].
However, the Reds are well-stocked in the central defensive department following the emergence of Jarell Quansah, who joins Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez – with Joel Matip set to move on upon the expiry of his contract.
Despite that, Gomez’s versatility as an auxiliary full-back on either side could convince Slot that there is room in the squad for another centre-back.

Either way, Liverpool appear to be in a win-win situation – they can choose to keep a talented player that they already own at no cost, or decide he is surplus to requirements and receive a tidy fee.
