Finance Expert reacts as Liverpool set to announce ‘Big Deal’ worth £50m+ with adidas

Dan Plumley believes Liverpool have secured a “big deal” with Adidas as they look set to ditch Nike and earn over £50m-a-year in the process.

A report from Sport Business [23 April] claims Liverpool will be ditching Nike for adidas in a deal worth in excess of £50m from 2025/26, upgrading their sponsorship deal from a £30m-per-year package.

The football finance expert admitted that it’s a positive thing for them to close the gap on their nearest rivals although they’re still some way off their European counterparts.

“It’s a big deal, absolutely,” Plumley exclusively told Liverpool News.

It uplifts the deal that Liverpool have currently got which is tick number one, can you get more than you got last time? It brings them a little bit closer to some of the others in the Premier League.

“There are still big giants in the European market who are taking higher fees per year when you break the contract down. [Manchester] City’s is around £65m as an example, Chelsea’s is about £60m, so it puts you closer to your nearest rivals and closes that gap a little bit.

“So all things considered it’s a good deal for the club, but it just closes that gap it doesn’t make Liverpool overtake some of the bigger English clubs in terms of kit sponsorship deals.”

Liverpool sign off on huge new deal at Anfield

it’s been a long time coming that the Reds got a sponsorship boost with their kit deal, considering the levels of money that other clubs are currently bringing in.

No team in England has more trophies than Liverpool and the history of the club, mixed with the current success the team has had under Jurgen Klopp means they deserve to be earning far more than the £30m-per-year they are getting from Nike currently.

To bring in a deal that is worth almost double the amount from next year is a major boost, especially with the new Premier League spending cap coming in that has been voted upon.

Nike kits haven’t been the best in recent times either and fans will likely be delighted to see the back of them, with fresher designs coming in.

There is a connection between adidas and Liverpool and now their great histories will be combining again, while the club can start to earn what they deserve from a kit deal too.
