Liverpool: Finance Expert reacts to season ticket price increase at Anfield

Dan Plumley has insisted that season ticket price increases are likely to continue at Liverpool and other clubs in the years to come.

The Reds have confirmed a two per cent increase in their prices after years of freezing them at Anfield, with the club keen to stress that is the lowest in the Premier League.

The football finance expert admitted that the price increase helps squeeze the bottom line for clubs, which is important against numerous financial regulations.

“We are now seeing and are likely to see clubs raise prices,” he exclusively told Liverpool News.

“We know they have been frozen for a few years prior but the stacking up of the costs from the pandemic and increasing costs of everything, and of course, looking at how you can squeeze the bottom line through ticket sales is going to be a viable option.

I know that is not great for the fans because it hurts them in the pocket as well, but I think it is likely we will see a lot of clubs do this and continue to do this.

I guess in terms of the percentage points, we can look at that raise from Liverpool and look at other clubs who have raised them much more and say relatively speaking, that is okay.

It is still a significant increase for the individual fan, so it depends on how we view these changes as reasonable, but certainly, to be expected.

I think we’re likely to see further increases in the future because it will help squeeze the bottom line which we know has become so important against whatever set of financial regulations we are aiming at in the future.”

Liverpool make Premier League argument

When you compare this to a six per cent rise at Tottenham with zero success returned on the pitch, Liverpool fans will be laughing at that.

With Jurgen Klopp leaving at the end of this season and a new manager set to be in charge in 2024-25, Anfield may be a strange place to watch football for a couple of weeks.

Let’s hope these fans are rewarded with the same exhilarating football, regardless of that.
