Liverpool: Stephen Warnock calls out Caoimhin Kelleher after 3-0 loss v Atalanta

Stephen Warnock has called out Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher after the 3-0 defeat to Atalanta in the Europa League on April 11.

The Irish international was at fault for the first goal at Anfield, as Gianluca Scamacca fired a shot straight through him to hand the Italians the lead.

Warnock admitted the goal would go down as a “big error” from Kelleher, who has been a very bright spark during the long injury lay-off to Alisson.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live Sport, as shared on their X account, Warnock said: “It’s a really poor strike.

“It goes down as an error from Kelleher, and it’s a big error.”

Alisson injury news is blessing for Liverpool

While nobody is blaming Kelleher for anything, having the Brazilian and best goalkeeper in world football back available is huge news for Liverpool.

After being pictured back in training and mooted for an April return, Alisson could even be in the team for the Premier League clash with Crystal Palace next time out.

Dr Rajpal Brar exclusively told Liverpool News on 11 April that the South American is unlikely to feature against Palace, but he could get the nod against Fulham the following week.

Kelleher will want to take every last chance he is given by Klopp this month, and it didn’t start too well against Atalanta given his mistake here.

Nobody gets away with pass marks after such a shocking night at Anfield though, and Klopp has a lot of thinking to do before the return leg in Italy, where a miracle may be needed.

Kelleher will be kicking himself.

In other Liverpool news, Klopp wants the Reds to sign this player in the summer despite the fact he’s on his way out.
