Richard Keys names Liverpool as he mentions ‘Huge’ Xabi Alonso mistake

Richard Keys has named Liverpool after insisting that Xabi Alonso is making a “huge mistake” by staying at Bayer Leverkusen next season.

After being heavily linked to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield, the Spaniard announced on 29 March that he was not leaving Germany and Leverkusen.

Speaking live on beIN Sports on Saturday 30 March, Keys could not believe what the Spaniard has decided to do at this point in his career.

“He announced yesterday [29 March] that he was staying,” he said.

“In my opinion, that is a huge mistake. At no other time in history will jobs at Liverpool, Munich, Manchester United, maybe Real Madrid, will these jobs be available again.

“Right now, he can have his pick. At no other point in his career going forward, will he ever be in this luxurious position again, ever.”

Who will be the next Liverpool manager?

That is the question on the list of everyone around Anfield right now, as Klopp continues to push for as many pieces of silverware as he can.

The Reds are already putting together a new hierarchy in the background above the manager, and they will hold all the keys to the successor of the German.

Klopp has enjoyed many wonderful years in Merseyside after coming from Germany, albeit a much harder job then, a luxury any new manager will now have.

The German has transformed everything, and Alonso looks to have passed that up at this stage of his career where his stock may never be higher.

All highs right now will be on the Premier League title race, with European silverware on the line too, as the Reds look to go out with a bang this season.

Alonso is on the verge of something very special at Leverkusen as he continues his unbeaten run to the Bundesliga title, but it’s hard to imagine it getting any better.
