Harvey Elliott among Liverpool trio called up to England Under-21s squad

Liverpool youngsters Jarell Quansah, Tyler Morton and Harvey Elliott have all been included in England’s U21 squad during the March international break.

The Three Lions confirmed via their website on Friday (15 March) that all three players will be part of Lee Carsley’s squad for U21 Euro 2025 qualifiers against Azerbaijan and Luxembourg in the first international fixtures of 2024.

While Elliott has been a regular fixture in the England and Liverpool set-up in recent years, Quansah has broken into Jurgen Klopp’s first team and managed to form a solid centre-back partnership with Virgil Van Dijk.

Morton has impressed whilst on loan at Hull City in the Championship this season, scoring three goals and laying on four assists for his teammates in 27 starts to help the Tigers climb to seventh in the table and mount a serious playoff push.

Will Harvey Elliott be called up to the England squad after his impressive performances with Liverpool?

It’s hard to argue that any of these players don’t deserve their international call-ups this season as they have all been incredibly impressive in recent weeks, whether that be in Klopp’s side at Anfield or while out on loan in the EFL.

Few would have expected Quansah to be starting week in and week out in the Premier League and the Europa League this season, but injuries have afforded the 21-year-old the opportunity to show his quality after a difficult loan spell with Bristol Rovers.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will leave Anfield in the summer.

It will only benefit the Reds in the long run that so many of their young stars are picking up valuable international experience at such a young age, but there is an argument to suggest that Elliott could be pushing for a place in Gareth Southgate’s senior squad.

The 20-year-old has been a consistent presence in the Reds’ midfield and has put in some exceptional performances in some of Liverpool’s biggest games of the season. A full international call-up surely won’t be too far around the corner.

No matter what, it is a credit to the Reds’ academy that they have three of the most exciting players currently in the Three Lions’ youth set-up.
